Our countryside estate in Chianti
The Marquis Carlo Torrigiani was amongst the largest land owners in Tuscany, today the Castello del Nero estate encompasses 740 acres of beautiful Chianti countryside.
With the extensive size of our estate it is easy to find solitude and tranquillity, or share the quiet pleasures of nature.
Guests are invited to walk through our land, winding between rows of vines and olive groves where you will frequently sight a timid deer, occasionally a porcupine or wild boar. Paths wind through porcini scented forests or past still lakes that mirror the peaceful beauty of this typical Tuscan scenery.
In autumn we gather our olives from 7,000 trees and take them to the local press where we produce our fine extra virgin olive oil, this is very high quality and much appreciated by our chefs. It is also a vital ingredient in our spa; ESPA have developed special treatments for the castello, harnessing the natural benefits of this golden elixir.
In September we harvest our grapes and produce two very fine red wines, Pieve del Nero and our superior Levriero.
Our organic culinary garden is bountiful; spring brings crisp courgettes and beans, summer vines are heavy with sun ripened tomatoes and peppers, in autumn purple shiny skins of aubergines shimmer against the rich soil.
